Baptism
Christ followers throughout history have demonstrated to the world their public confession and personal commitment to follow Jesus by being baptized. This is an outward expression of the inward reality that Jesus has become the boss, guide and forgiver of their lives. Water is the physical symbol that God has cleansed believers from their sins through the blood of Jesus. Christ followers are immersed in water, symbolizing the death of their old self along with their sins, and Christ followers are raised out of the water to picture a new life in Christ.
“Do you not know that we who were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Romans 6:3-4 (MEV)
